Fire safety service and sales

Getz Fire Equipment Company, a leader in fire protection products and services in the Midwest since 1957, is seeking a Fire Alarm and Special Hazards Designer to work in our Peoria office. GFE is a small business that prides itself on quality, commitment to customer satisfaction, and fierce loyalty to all employees that join our family. We have been the premier Special Hazards company of downstate Illinois and Northeast Iowa for several decades, and since the early 2000’s have been a leader in Fire Alarm System design and installation. Our goal to distinguish ourselves with quality and ethics has led to steady, organic growth, and with your help we plan to continue this trend for many years to come. By joining the Engineered Systems Sales department of GFE, you would work alongside a small group of committed individuals with hundreds of years of cumulative industry experience.

Job Description:

This position will oversee the design process throughout the duration of each contract. Major responsibilities include the creation of construction drawings using AutoCAD and compiling all accompanying documentation, permit applications, record keeping and as-built drawings, and general support to sales estimators and project technicians within the department. You will be expected to assess each design for compliance with applicable NFPA and IBC codes, local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements, and manufacturer’s specifications. An eye for detail, strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and cooperative participation within a team will be crucial in this fast-paced and challenging position.

Qualifications:

We are seeking professional candidates with 3-5 years of experience in the design of fire alarms systems and/or special hazards and that possess NICET certifications in those fields, though entry level candidates are encouraged to apply. Previous working experience and proficiency in 2D drafting with AutoCAD is an absolute must. A college education in a field related to engineering, construction or design is preferred. The top candidates will be able to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of low voltage electrical wiring, fire alarm system operations, and life safety code requirements, as well as clear written communication and coherent graphic representation skills. All candidates must have knowledge of or experience with construction plan drawing and drafting, and must possess basic proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Benefits:

We are seeking an individual that wants to build a long-term career. Regardless of your level of experience, we will be intently focused on your professional development for the first 2-5 years and will provide the tools and resources you need to continue building your industry knowledge and skills throughout your entire career. To promote a mutually beneficial relationship, Getz Fire Equipment acknowledges the employee as our #1 asset and will invest in your continued training and education to the level that you are willing. The compensation includes a 401K match, compulsory profit sharing, a health benefits package, and a competitive salary. Pay will be determined by experience and qualifications. Qualifying entry-level candidates can expect $30,000+ annually, and those with industry experience will be offered a competitive level of pay at the top of the industry.
