S&S was founded in 1948 when George Schmitt and Gus Schumacher opened a specialty hardware and tool store near downtown Peoria. Over the years, the company has evolved to become the largest architectural openings source in Central Illinois. Our expertise in the industry and our capability sets us apart! We partner with contractors big and small to supply doors, frames, and hardware for any sized project. S&S also proudly serves many end-user customers in Central Illinois, like our schools and hospitals. We specialize in a variety of doors like wood, hollow metal, fire-rated, acoustical, blast resistant, corrosion resistant, and traffic doors. We work closely with architects, contractors, and owners to specify hardware and coordinate access control and automatic entrances, all while ensuring fire and life safety/egress requirements are met. S&S also facilitates master key system design and keying. Outside of doors and hardware, we also provide Division 10 products like toilet compartments, toilet and bath accessories, fire extinguishers and cabinets, etc.

Favorite Project

We are grateful to have been a part of countless projects over the years! Each one is unique in terms of size and complexity. It’s fun for us when we get to do projects that are outside of the everyday. A few projects at the Illinois State Capital have involved some fancy doors and hardware, along with complex pneumatic and electrically controlled door hardware. A recent project for St. Jude Catholic Church involved some 10 foot tall stile and rail doors. Several projects in the warehouse district have given us the opportunity to recreate historically accurate doors.

S&S Builders Hardware Co. has recently added some new team members and has been working to position itself for the next 75 years! We look forward to continue to serve the area and all of our great customers!
